Hi! I’m Sebastian, a Duke Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mathematics student with four years of experience tutoring students in SAT prep, AP classes, and advanced math and reading at Kumon.
From 2022 to 2025, I worked as a Kumon instructor, supporting students across multiple skill levels and spearheading the development of an advanced math solution manual. At my school, I served as the statistics teaching assistant for our math competition team and was the tutoring coordinator for both the Science and Spanish Honor Societies.
I graduated in the top 3% of my class, completed 18 AP courses, received national merit recognition, and earned a 1590 on the SAT. I was accepted to multiple T20 universities, including Duke, Northwestern, Cornell, and Carnegie Mellon. I have participated in state and national math competitions where I earned over 20 top-10 awards, and I was in the top 5% of students who qualified for the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad. Outside of academics, I have helped catalyze change across multiple fronts, co-founding a healthcare nonprofit that received a $5,000 grant and serving as co-president of two national honor societies.
While most of my achievements were driven by my own initiative, I owe the discipline, determination, and focus behind them to the mentorship I received from my parents, instructors, and—most importantly—other students who showed me what was possible. With UKE, I’m committed to offering a strong, reliable source of guidance and creating a space where learning feels exciting. I can’t wait to support your child’s growth and help them reach their goals.
Classes
Each Package includes a complimentary introductory meeting with parents and/or students to understand the student’s interests and prior experience and to create personalized lesson plans that will fully challenge and excite the student(s).
Classes are provided online using Zoom or Google Meet. A computer with reliable Internet connection, preferably one that is able to download software, is required for this course. Students do not need extensive prior programming experience, but they must have basic computer skills and be able to type efficiently.
Days and times are to be coordinated with the teacher. However, a minimum of 1 to 2 classes needs to be taken each week in order to maximize results and ensure that the full package is taken within the defined time frame.
Waiver
The teacher does not make any guarantee of any future results, rewards, success, or achievements as part of the tutoring package.
It is important to note that the effectiveness of the tutoring sessions depends greatly on the effort, dedication, and commitment of the student. While the teacher will provide comprehensive instruction, practice, and support, the ultimate outcome of the tutoring sessions will be influenced by the student’s individual effort and engagement in the learning process. The tutoring package is designed to provide students with the necessary tools, resources, and guidance to improve their skills and knowledge in the targeted areas. However, the success of the tutoring sessions relies on the student’s active participation, practice, and willingness to learn. It is important for the student to come prepared for each session, complete assigned tasks, practice outside of the tutoring sessions, and actively engage in the learning activities provided by the teacher.
