Essay Writing & Reading Interpretation – 20-Hour Private Tutoring Package

This comprehensive one-on-one tutoring program is designed for high school students seeking to build a strong foundation in English language skills—specifically writing and reading comprehension—in preparation for the SAT examination and college application essays. It is particularly well-suited for students who find it challenging to organize and express ideas clearly in writing, or who struggle with interpreting complex written material.

Over the course of ten individualized two-hour sessions, students will receive personalized instruction that adapts to their learning pace, academic background, and specific areas of need. The curriculum progressively builds from core language fundamentals to advanced reading strategies and sophisticated writing techniques, with continuous practice, evaluation, and feedback.

The goal of this program is to equip students not only with the tools required to succeed on standardized tests, but also with the confidence and competence to express themselves effectively in high-stakes written communication, such as personal statements and college admissions essays.

Program Components:

1. Diagnostic Essay & Reading Comprehension Assessment
The program begins with a thorough diagnostic exercise that includes both a timed essay and a reading comprehension passage. This initial assessment evaluates:

Grammatical accuracy and sentence structure
Clarity and coherence in written expression
Depth of reading comprehension and interpretation
Vocabulary range and contextual understanding
Analytical and critical reasoning
Findings from this assessment are used to develop a customized instruction plan tailored to the student’s strengths and weaknesses.

2. Essay Writing & Development
Focused training on crafting high-quality, structured writing for both standardized exams and college admissions essays. Instruction will cover:

Developing clear, concise thesis statements
Organizing ideas into cohesive paragraphs and logical arguments
Enhancing sentence fluency, transitions, and word choice
Implementing strategies for analytical and persuasive writing
Understanding the distinctions between SAT essays (if applicable) and college application personal narratives
Responding to sample Common App and supplemental prompts
Completion and revision of five major writing assignments, each followed by detailed instructor-led feedback and editing guidance

3. Reading Comprehension & Interpretation
This section targets the skills necessary to understand, analyze, and extract meaning from high-level academic texts, a core component of the SAT Reading and Writing sections. Instruction includes:

Techniques for navigating dense and unfamiliar language
Identifying key arguments, tone, purpose, and rhetorical structure
Annotation strategies to enhance active reading
Mastery of question types, including evidence pairings, function-based, and vocabulary-in-context questions
Vocabulary development and grammar review in context of passage-based learning

4. Test Strategy & Independent Practice (optional)
A focus on the test-taking strategies and independent study skills necessary for long-term success:

Timed drills simulating SAT test conditions
Prioritization strategies and pacing techniques
Techniques for eliminating wrong answer choices and identifying distractors
Scheduled homework and at-home practice assignments to extend learning
Continuous written feedback for all outside assignments
Optional recommendations for official College Board practice tools and trusted preparatory texts for extended study
